Friday 7:30 p.m.The Monster Jam crew here in Rockford, IL had no idea what to expect from the crowd and for the first time in a long time it seemed like we were the ones that were treated to a show the fans put on for US! The enthusiasm that was inside the arena absolutely raised the roof all night long.
Starting with the wheelie contest, the judges proved they were going to be tough to please, but in the end it was Batman & Norm Miller taking the win, EASILY.
In Monster Jam racing, I could tell that the drivers were about to “ramp it up” a notch or two. In round 1 Miller & Batman looked as if they were on their way to be the first “double down” winner of the weekend by defeating Steve Reynolds & Predator.
Local boy Jim Burns and Mechanical Mischief received a bye run due to problems with Monster Mutt early on in the evening which put nearly every crew member from every team in hustle mode to help Mutt. Jocelyn Perrin & High Maintenance defeated Lenny Kuilder & Prowler to finish out the first round of racing.
As if on a rail both Batman & High Maintenance worked their way through the bracket and met head to head in the UTI Championship Finals. It was close across the Advance Auto Parts Finish line but it was all Batman & Norm Miller taking the win.
When it came time for the Donut contest, it was a whole different story. No one and I mean NOBODY even came close the “Lil' Miss Dangerous” & Jocelyn Perrin. They were the ONLY driver and truck team to break the 20 point mark. In fact, the duo scored a fantastic 24. The next closest competitors were Jim Burns and his Mechanical Mischief with an 18.
Now talking about an entrance that belonged to Joe Miller and Monster Mutt. His crew along with a few other different team’s crew members absolutely THRASHED on Monster Mutt in time to enter back into the arena for donuts but used that event only as a warm up to see if everything was ok. Then they got serious for Monster Jam Freestyle.
Respectable scores by Perrin, Kuilder, & Burns put the pressure on the last truck of the night which also happened to be Miller & Mutt. The pair didn’t disappoint the crews or the fans. Huge momentum and speed between hits. I would even dare to say that Joe Miller might have been just plain old MAD at how the evening started. He drove that ole’ dog accordingly, and nailed the highest score of the night in easily taking a very VERY satisfying win.
An emotional interview with Miller afterwards was proof to how much he wanted to perform for the fans, his crew, and his family in attendance. It was a great way to end the first show of the weekend. I can’t wait for tomorrow, it’s going to be a KICKER!!

Saturday 2:00 p.m.This afternoon could’ve been considered “lady’s day” after what the fans witnessed today. The Monster Jam drivers were on the floor for 4 different opportunities to claim a win. Of those 4 chances, it was Jocelyn Perrin & her “High Maintenance” Willy’s that beat the boys 3 different times. In TOTAL dominating fashion, it can only be described basically one way, she KILLED em!
In the Wheelie contest it was rather close with Norm Miller & Batman, but Jocelyn was able to better it by one point and the win.
Next was Monster Jam Racing. The action was still very intense even with Jocelyn Perrin eliminated in an earlier round. It came down to two former world champions, Norm Miller & Batman and Joe Miller & Monster Mutt. Two incredibly aggressive drivers with heavy right feet to match, but Inching out a close and I mean close win was Norm Miller and Batman in the UTI Racing Championship.
The 3rd contest of the afternoon was the Monster Jam Donut competitions. This is where
Jocelyn Perrin and High Maintenance really shined. Not only shined but “KILLED EM.” She was the only driver to break the 20 point barrier by scoring a 26. Next closest was Jim Burns & Mechanical Mischief with a 19.
Finally the last contest of the afternoon and as predicted, it was all “High Maintenance” and Jocelyn Perrin. The scores were a little closer for freestyle with 21s, 22, & a 23 from the other competitors. Jocelyn was the 2nd driver to come out onto the floor and from that point was positioned on the “hot seat.” When the final driver took his best shot at the 25 of “High Maintenance,” the best that ANY of the competitors could was muster up a 23. That left Jocelyn Perrin in the top spot again, taking her 3rd win out of 4 contests today.
With one show remaining tonight, let’s see if she can keep the momentum rolling. Tune in to find out!

Saturday 7:30 p.m.The final event of the weekend and outside of one contest, it was a girl’s party night! Jocelyn Perrin & “High Maintenance” swept through the night in competition after another. The boys had nothing for her until freestyle, but a lot happened between wheelies and the last event of the night.
In wheelies, it was a lopsided affair. Not one monster on the floor was even close to what Jocelyn and “High Maintenance” performed, laid down, nailed, accomplished, whatever you want to call it, the duo dominated.
In racing, it was a 2 dog fight so to speak with local boy Jim Burns & Mechanical Mischief and once again Jocelyn Perrin and High Maintenance working their way through the brackets. For a moment in one of the rounds of racing it looked like Perrin’s win streak was about to end. She was actually defeated in round 1 but came back in round 2 as the fast looser and kept on winning after that. In the UTI Racing Championship Finals, it was a repeat of the round 1 pairing with the 2 aforementioned pair. A replay of the championship was played back 3 times before a winner was able to be determined. Much to the delight of the ladies in attendance and by the narrowest of margins, Jocelyn & High Maintenance was determined the winner.
In the Donut Competition, AGAIN it was all about the lady tonight. With the lowest score being a 6 and the next highest being 20, for the 6th time in 7 contests on the floor, High Maintenance “KILLED EM” with a 28! BIG TIME WIN FOR TEAM PERRIN!
The women in the crowd tonight were without a doubt, were on their feet for the entire freestyle competition. With the thought of Jocelyn having a chance at clean sweeping her way through the night, it was enough to make the air electric. Jim Burns & Mechanical Mischief tied High Maintenance with a 23 in freestyle. Those 2 maintained the tie all the way until the last driver of the night. Joe Miller & Monster Mutt did what he had to do. Nearly every obstacle was already flattened and gone. Somehow he and Mutt pulled off a nearly impossible feat, winning freestyle with nearly NOTHING to work with, but that’s exactly what the pair did. With a final score of 24 and winning by one point Joe happily jumped into the crowd with the famous over-sized Monster Mutt bone and looked for the loudest Mutt fan.
Ecstatic fans, spent equipment, and our crew smiling from ear to ear at another weekend’s job well done. Thank you Rockford, you’ve been a BLAST, hope to see you some of you on down the road at the Monster Jam World Finals in Vegas in just a few weeks.
