Recap: Friday 7:30 p.m. - Steve Sims drove Stone Crusher to an exciting win by less than the length of a tire over Adam Anderson and Taz in the Championship Race but Anderson roared back to take the freestyle competition victory Friday night, opening a three event weekend at the Florida Sports Park in Naples.

 

It was Anderson who began the night by winning the wheelie competition, raving about the new engine in his Taz truck. The fresh power plant also served "Double A" well in the race bracket on the huge race course on the swamp buggy track as Taz eliminated Blue Thunder and then Gunslinger to earn a berth in the Championship Race. Sims had Stone Crusher in the finals with the Virginia native knowing full well how fast Taz had been each round, and Sims cut a great light and stayed even throughout the Chicago style race track title tilt. Then heading to the final turn Taz got completely sideways. Anderson stayed in the throttle and straightened the truck back up but the bobble gave Sims a slight edge and Stone Crusher grabbed the photo finish victory over Taz.

 

In freestyle Sims set the bar but Anderson was able to get over it. Adam soared all over the massive facility with breathtaking leaps and a pair of crowd pleasing slap wheelies that the judges scored a 27 to put Taz in the lead. Then Randy Brown, whose Grave Digger truck broke drive line pieces in the wheelie contest, saw his crew get the truck repairs finished just in time to give the Florida fans what they wanted - a Digger freestyle. Randy delivered with the repaired truck rocking the house but Anderson's bigger air and thrilling slap wheelies were enought to keep Taz one point ahead for the freestyle triumph.

Saturday 7:30 p.m. - In front of a packed house at the Florida Sports Park in Naples Taz and Grave Digger dominated the competition Saturday night with Adam Anderson powering Taz to the racing and wheelie wins before Randy Brown closed the event by rocking the house with a ragged edge freestyle to take that win for team Grave Digger.   The event started with the crowd roaring in approval of a pair of massive wheelies that wrapped up with a slap wheelie that Anderson rode the length of the long straightaway as Taz took the wheelie contest victory.   In racing Anderson was blistering the long oval track in another march to the racing finale where this time he would square off with Frank Krmel and Blue Thunder in the Championship Race. Despite the length of the race course the finale was again a close finish with Anderson driving Taz to a one truck length victory.   In freestyle Krmel was again outstanding only to finish in the number two spot. Sunday 2:00 p.m. - It was appropriate that the two fastest trucks all weekend on one of the longest courses of the year would meet in the Championship Race as Adam Anderson in Taz edged Steve Sims in Stone Crusher, then Randy Brown pulled off the weekend's most insane air when he needed it most to allow Grave Digger to eek out a one point win over Taz in freestyle to wrap up a three event weekend at the Florida Sports Park in Naples.

 

The afternoon action started with Florida native Lionel Easler, who came out first, winning the wheelie competition. Easler soared Instigator through a huge backstretch sky wheelie, then came around to the front stretch with a slap wheelie that he road all the way down the long front straightway giving Instigator it's first win of the weekend against the all-star line-up in Naples.

 

In racing Stone Crusher and Taz mowed through the early rounds in route to what seemed to be inevitable, that pair racing in the Championship Race. Both trucks got off the line equally and they stayed even all the way to the end where the young Anderson found a little extra finishing kick to edge Sims by about a foot for the racing win.

 

In freestyle Anderson's wild big air performance looked like a winner for the Taz team when Grave Digger, depite some great moves from Brown, appeared to headed to a second place run. Then with just seconds left of the :90 second clock Brown hammered the throttle to a part of the unique course that no other driver had hit all weekend, soaring Grave Digger into the air with by far the biggest air of the weekend, followed by a wild landing that he drove out of somehow to continue the run. With the crowd standing and cheering the judges scored Grave Digger a one point winner over Taz to wrap up another amazing weekend in southwest Florida.
