Friday Night
Sub-freezing temperatures couldn't keep the fans in Tulsa, Oklahoma,
from enjoying the show as the U.S. Air Force Reserve presented Advance Auto
Parts Monster Jam brought to you by Ford Trucks. The motorized mayhem returned
after a successful visit in a new building for 2009.
Action started with U.S. Air Force Reserve wheelstand
competition as the field hoped to grab some air. Iron Outlaw led the
way, doing a tail-dragging wheelstand that knocked the power pin free,
stopping the truck. The scores stayed close throughout the competition,
but Bounty hunter showed why the truck was a world champion, earning
the 23 and the title.
The Advance Auto Parts donut competition saw some whirlwind
turns, led by Bad News Travels Fast and Grave Digger. Bruce Haney took
the steering off, hanging it from the right side window. Grave Digger
had a high number of turns and the duo ended up with a tie score. The
secret judge found favor with Grave Digger's performance and gave him
the win.
In racing, Bad Habit thwarted Bad News in the first pairing.
A husband-wife match-up saw Iron Outlaw and Bounty Hunter meet in the
second heat with Iron Outlaw with a slight win. Grave Digger topped
Donkey Kong to complete round one. In the semi-finals, Bounty Hunter
returned as fast loser and took advantage with a decisive victory over
Bad Habit. Grave Digger earned a trip to the racing finals by stopping
Iron Outlaw. In the main, a close race saw Bounty Hunter on top.
The excitement of freestyle gave the fans something to see.
Iron Outlaw opened that portion of the show with a strong run that the
rest couldn't see to top. Iron Outlaw led after four trucks, but Bounty
hunter roared to the floor. after a few jumps, the truck broke a sway
bar arm and the judges kept the score down. The final attempt was
reserved for Grave Digger, but less than 15 seconds into the routine,
electrical problems damaged the batteries and Digger was done. Iron
Outlaw endured for the win.
Tulsa fans were dismayed with the dominance of Team Kansas,
who swept Team Oklahoma in Quad Wars. Young and old alike enjoyed the
appearance of Galactron and Reptar.

Saturday
The house was rocking in Tulsa as the U.S. Air Force Reserve
presented the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam broght to you by Ford
Trucks put on a Saturday show for the ages. Monster Jam set the new
year in motion with hot action.
The U.S. Air Force wheelstand competition opened the
show after a good crowd had assembled for the Built Ford Tough Party in the
Pits. As they were settling into their seats, competitors hit the ground running
as Iron Outlaw put up a sky-high wheelie as first truck on the floor. The 25
looked good until Donkey Kong rumbled in to match the score. The secret judge
said Iron Outlaw earned the honor and took the first match-up of the night.
Next up was donut action as scores were close. Bad News
Travels Fast was early leader as fans were awed when driver Bruce Haney
hung his steering wheel out of the truck. His 27 score lasted until
Jimmy Creten waltzed the Bounty Hunter to a score of 28. Grave Digger
launched into a long running roll, spinning the truck more than 20
times and earning a perfect 30 and the win.
Side-by-side racing brought Bad News and Iron Outlaw in the
first pairing with Iron Outlaw matching a first round win from Friday
night. Bounty Hunter met Grave Digger in the second race and Bounty
Hunter, determined not to be fast loser again, was up to the challenge.
Bad Habit was nipped by Donkey Kong, but Bad Habit's effort got him the
cherished pass to the semis. His joy was short lived as Iron Outlaw put
him into the pits and moved Outlaw to the finals. Bounty Hunter claimed
the win over Donkey Kong, which put husband and wife in the finals. As
Iron Outlaw approached the stack for the final, Bounty Hunter nudged
her left rear to send a message. The message fell on deaf ears as Iron
Outlaw blasted to the finals win. Bounty Hunter limped across the line
with a broken axle.
When the Advance Auto Parts Monster Freestyle hit the track,
the fans were worked into a frenzy and Iron Outlaw was a big reason. A
solid 24 looked good until Bad Habit put it all together. the crew
changed shocks and set-up from Friday night and the change worked, but
the drivers weren't done. A thrash by the Bounty Hunter crew got the
truck into place for freestyle and nothing was left on the table with
Bounty Hunter taking the lead with a 26. Grave Digger came to the floor
and gave it his best shot but ended up two points short when the tally
was done.
Team Kansas completed a two-night sweep of Team Oklahoma in
Quad Wars while Galactron and Reptar fought it out in the night's
program.
