El Toro Loco And Becky McDonough Shine In Arnhem, Holland
Oct 1, 2013
Amidst a gathering of some of the most accomplished superstars in Monster Jam® today in many ways it was Young Gun, Becky McDonough in El Toro Loco® shining as bright as any during an incredible two days of action at the Gelredome in Arnhem, Holland.
For the second straight year this trip across the Atlantic Ocean to one of the most popular stops on the Monster Jam World Tour was contested in the team format with six of the world’s best Monster Jam trucks and drivers comprising Team Destruction and another six competing for Team Marvel. In this competition where one Monster Jam truck from each team competed against one from the other team in four separate battles (match racing, wheelies in a “follow the leader” style, dueling donuts, and freestyle) with one point going to the team of the winner in each contest El Toro Loco scored more points for Team Destruction over the course of the weekend than any other truck and driver for either team among the stellar roster in competition.
McDonough drove El Toro Loco to three victories in her four match-ups both days, those six points outscoring every other individual on either team for the weekend. It was not just getting those valuable points; it was how El Toro Loco racked them up that was really impressive. McDonough was both brilliant and consistent across the board with the four separate tests provided at each event. El Toro Loco was blistering fast on the Chicago style oval race track, winning the match-race round impressively both Saturday and Sunday in The Netherlands. McDonough deliver exciting moments in wheelies and donuts as well both days. And when it came to freestyle time El Toro Loco rocked the house, the crowd roaring in delight. Many at the event who have seen McDonough in action often commented that they thought El Toro Loco’s freestyle Saturday night was the best performance of her budding career.
El Toro Loco’s impressive weekend was a true testament to “girl power” as Crew Chief Katie Anderscavage and that crew gave Becky a truck that was at peak performance for every single competition both days. The truck was able to handle everything the driver gave it and in between competitions any needed repairs and adjustments were handled expertly by that pit crew.
McDonough also was a huge favorite among the Dutch fans. Her bright smile was in evidence all weekend long and the lines to meet Becky, take a picture with her in front of the beautiful yellow El Toro Loco, and get her autograph during both Parties in the Pits were among the longest each day. On the Monster Jam World Tour it has been a great 2013 so far for this El Toro Loco team, the awesome weekend in Arnhem following what was in many ways a breakout performance McDonough turned in last spring during the sport’s debut in Abu Dhabi.
The fans that packed into the Gelredome were treated to thrill after thrill from every Monster Jam star in action during the weekend with too many highlights to try and list here. The team battles captivated the fans and the competitions were close both days with Team Destruction that was made up of Max-DSM and Team Captain Tom Meents; McDonough in El Toro Loco; Grave Digger® and Charlie Pauken; Monster Energy and Damon Bradshaw; Dan Evans in Disney XD; and Alex Blackwell driving Captain’s Curse® taking the team victory on Saturday. Team Marvel came back to win the huge trophy on Sunday with great contributions from Team Captain Chad Fortune in Captain America; Hulk and driver Jon Zimmer; Spider-ManTM and Bari Musawwir; Thor and Frank Krmel; Wolverine and Dustin Brown; and Morgan Kane in Iron ManTM. It was ultra competitive and crowd pleasing all weekend and proved again why, thanks to both the on-track performances and the support of the amazing Dutch fans, the annual trip to Arnhem remains a true highlight on the Monster Jam World Tour.
Believe me, the fans can’t wait for the return of Monster Jam to The Netherlands in 2014 and every single driver and crew member who had the honor of being a part of this year’s Monster Jam team competition in the Gelredome can’t wait to be back in front of the Dutch fans next year as well.
