Bari's Adventures Indianapolis

After a stellar weekend in my home town of Cleveland Ohio, I wanted to keep the momentum going as we embarked on our final big stadium show in week 9 of Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam.  Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis Indiana would bring out a bunch of tough competitors that were all looking to finish out one of the last stadium shows before The NGK Spark Plugs World Finals with a bang! Once I arrived at the stadium I could not help but notice the amazing architecture and static displays inside. Not one but two top fuel dragsters, a Pulling tractor and a awesome display of a dragster Hemi engine were just a few of the cool attributes on the main concourse that make this such a unique and impressive venue!

On Friday night we had the pleasure of having a Private Pit party with 4000 plus boy scouts that could not wait for Saturday's high flying action.

Once show time rolled around I was eager to get the adrenaline flowing to put on a great show for all the great fans in Indy! I faced off with Charles Benns in Monster Mutt Rottweiler in qualifying. I was able to pull off a pretty good run around the fast Chicago style racing track until the final turn where I felt the truck starting to slide around a bit too much, so I checked up instead of spinning out. I managed to qualify mid pack in the number 8 position. This would pair me up with veteran world finals competitor Chad Fortune in his brand new Captain America ride!  In the fastest race in round one Chad was able to edge me out but, due to the nature of the racing bracket, I was able to come back as the fastest loser.  I was happy to be back in the show, however I would have to face off with the nights fast qualifier Tom Meents in Maximum Destruction. I knew I would have to run a fast, flawless race to keep up with the 9 time world champ. By now, I figured out what I needed to do to make it around the track pretty fast. Once we pulled to the line and the light turned from red to green, I took off over the first jump and entered the first turn. I made it around the first turn pretty well, in fact I had a slight lead going over the 2nd jump, so I picked up the pace heading into the final turn and put my foot to the floor approaching the 3rd and final jump! In a photo finish Tom was declared the winner. I had to stop the truck and watch the instant replay, and man it was close! Even with the call going against me and the Spiderman team, it was a major confidence builder to be able to push Tom to the limit.

Once Tom went on to win racing, it made me feel pretty good knowing that I almost beat him. Needless to say I was ready to set the bar pretty high for the rest of the field in freestyle. I was the number 6 truck to tackle the wild freestyle course. I set out a game plan to keep up good momentum throughout the entire run while building off of each move leading up to bonus time! I was able to execute a run that I felt like could contend for the win complete with Big Air, sky wheelies, A slap wheelie after jumping the double and even a doughnut to cap it all off! I was rewarded by the Judges with a score of 24 which would hold the lead for several trucks until John Seasock in the Advance Auto parts Grinder was able to edge me out by 1 point. Lindsey Weenk was able to ultimately take home the freestyle win with a score of 26. All in all I was happy with the night as a whole. A 3rd place finish in freestyle against the caliber of trucks and drivers in attendance is nothing to be ashamed of, but it also makes me want to push that much harder to hopefully earn that major Stadium Freestyle win that everyone wants!
We are now just 2 short weeks away from the NGK Spark Plugs Monster Jam World Finals in Las Vegas Nevada! I will be there competing in the Young Guns Shoot Out during the Friday double down party with 7 of the top new drivers in the sport! I can't wait to turn Sidey loose down Thunder Alley!
