TRUCK HISTORY
|
Northern NightmareSM was originally unveiled to the world on November 30, 2011, at Rogers Centre in Toronto. It was first time in the history of Monster Jam® that a dedicated Canadian-themed Monster Jam truck had been added to the tour. Proud Canadian Cam McQueen, a native of Calgary who was already one of the sport’s fastest-rising stars, was tabbed from day one to drive the new Northern Nightmare.
The name Northern Nightmare was selected through the national online contest, “Name the Canuck Monster Truck,” which invited Canadians to offer up their best homegrown names. Entries were judged on a variety of criteria, including: originality, creativity, capacity to evoke Canadian pride, and the ability to capture and reflect the essence of the Maple Leaf Monster Jam Tour in Canada.
Northern Nightmare is covered with red maple leaves on a black background and sports a Canadian flag. The truck competes across North America and is a headliner on the popular Monster Jam Maple Leaf Tour.
McQueen first drove Northern Nightmare in competition at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario, on January 14, 2012. He made a big impact for the Canadian-themed Monster Jam Truck right from the start, capping off the first season of competition for Northern Nightmare at the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam World FinalsSM XIII presented by NGK Spark Plugs, March 24, 2012, at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. In front of tens of thousands of fans from around the world, including a large contingent from Canada, McQueen turned in one of the greatest freestyle efforts in history. He used a front end-over-end rollover and a complete 360-degree backflip to highlight a spectacular run that resulted in the first-year truck bringing home the sport’s top prize, as Northern Nightmare won the 2012 Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Championship. |
