A World Championship
Crew Chief who still turns wrenches but now has the added duties of driving a
monster truck for popular Team Scream, Steve Koehler is now the driver of
Wrecking Crew in Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam competition. Koehler has been a
mainstay in the monster pits for years expertly handling the tough job of maintaining
and repairing his brother’s popular Avenger, a truck that Jim Koehler has
powered to a pair of World Freestyle Championships, while also handling the
crew duties for Jim’s long time teammate Chris Bergeron and Brutus. Since the
start of 2010 the established technical ace has been adding to his resume by
driving Wrecking Crew, always in true “Team Scream style” at Advance Auto Parts
Monster Jam events.
Q&A with Steve Koehler
How did you get started competing on
the Monster Jam circuit?
By way of my brother Jim, working as his Crew
Chief and when we expanded the team I got the chance to drive, but of course I
still work on the trucks too.
What do you enjoy doing while on the road with
With four trucks on our team now I’m always
working on them, so I don’t have a lot of time to do anything else.
What do you do with your free time?
Graphic design, websites, videos editing, boating, rollerblading, and sea
What is your greatest memory as a monster
The first time I won freestyle in a show in
Montreal, Canada in April, 2008.
Do you have any pre-show rituals that
you run though?
I always look at the little sheep that I have strapped in my truck, and
make sure that my Saint-Christopher medal is in the truck as well.

tour, what career path would you follow?
