DRIVER HISTORY
|
One of Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam’s most flamboyant and popular personalities, Pat Gerber grew up in a motorsports family which then led him into competition with his Shocker monster truck. In his own words, Gerber describes his background and becoming a driver in Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam this way: “My earliest childhood memories involve motorsports. Growing up my dad owned an off-road repair shop and on the weekends he raced his mud truck called Mud Pup. Over the years, monster trucks started to gain popularity and became a segment of the mud truck shows. When the popularity continued to rise, my dad helped build several monster trucks and we decided to start racing monster trucks. This was a huge accomplishment for us and something we are very proud of. Over the years of racing we decided to build a new style of monster truck. Today I still race the same chassis that my dad helped me start. Similar to my father, I now own my own successful off-road performance shop, Shocker Motorsports and I race monster trucks on the weekends. Our work has been featured on the cover of several notable magazines, and has been featured at trade shows across the country. There is no doubt that without my solid foundation in motorsports I would not be the monster truck driver and entrepreneur that I am today!”
Q&A with Pat Gerber MonsterJam.com: How did you get started competing on the Monster Jam circuit? Pat Gerber: I got started because my dad was a mud racer. And since monster trucks got really popular we decided to build a truck and compete as well. 20 years later I am still doing it!
MonsterJam.com: What do you enjoy doing while on the road with Monster Jam? Pat Gerber: While traveling on the circuit we log plenty of hours watching movies. When we are not watching movies we enjoy every opportunity to meet our fans. This business has been founded upon the fans, and we would like to meet everybody we can!
MonsterJam.com: What do you do with your free time? Pat Gerber: In my free time I like to hang out with my family and go camping or ride quads. MonsterJam.com: What is your greatest memory as a monster truck driver? Pat Gerber: My greatest memory as a monster truck driver came a couple of years ago in Anaheim, CA during freestyle. I decided to hit the largest jump on the track. I rounded the corner smashed the gas, and flew over the jump side ways. The truck got huge air and fans loved it! That jump earned me a place on the hot seat on the main stage and it was an awesome feeling to have the fans cheering me on!
MonsterJam.com: Do you have any pre-show rituals that you run though? Pat Gerber: We have no pre-race rituals per say, EXCEPT I always start the event out chewing a piece of gum. It is our mission to put on the best performance possible for our fans every show. So, before the show we thoroughly inspect everything on the monster truck and make final adjustments based on track conditions, so when the show begins, we can provide the highest level of performance that the fans expect.
MonsterJam.com: If you were not competing on the Monster Jam tour, what career path would you follow? Pat Gerber: I’m lucky because being an entrepreneur in the off road industry is exactly what I wanted to do as a career. I could not imagine doing anything else. When I am not racing I’m helping other people improve the performance of their personal vehicles, or build the custom off-road vehicle of their dreams. I can engineer and fabricate almost anything!
