A widely varied motorsports background eventually led Kevin "Father Time" Koszala into the world of Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam competition. The Excaliber driver started in motorsports by racing circle tracks and from there the Illinois native and former Chicago police officer moved into drag racing. His evolution continued and from drag racing Koszala began to compete in mud bogs, a form of motorsports that many Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam drivers have in their backgrounds. Koszala was then able to make what has become a natural move for many, advancing from mud racers to monster trucks. Years of experience behind the wheel of his own trucks eventually led Kozala in 2011 to land behind the wheel of the popular Excaliber truck that is a favorite with Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam fans.

Q&A with Kevin Koszala

MonsterJam.com: How did you get started competing on the Monster Jam circuit?

Kevin Koszala:   For many years I ran smaller shows with my truck and then I was finally given the opportunity to run for Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam. I had my own truck back in the early 90’s called Wild One, then called Crime Crusher, followed by Easy Rider before I got the opportunity to drive Excaliber in 2011.

MonsterJam.com:  What do you enjoy doing while on the road with Monster Jam?

Kevin Koszala:   Seeing different parts of the world.

MonsterJam.com:  What do you do with your free time?

Kevin Koszala:   I like to r ide my Harley and enjoy my family life.

MonsterJam.com:  What is your greatest memory as a monster truck driver?

Kevin Koszala:   My memories come from getting the opportunity to travel to different places around the world but the one place that stands out was the opportunity that I had when I went to Tel Aviv, Israel with my old monster truck, Easy Rider. Being one of the first monster trucks to ever run there was great.

MonsterJam.com: Do you have any pre-show rituals that you run though?

Kevin Koszala:   As strange as it sounds, I have been doing this for such a long time and I still get nervous before each show. During the national anthem I talk to the truck and say “let’s have a good time and give me one more good show.”

MonsterJam.com: If you were not competing on the Monster Jam tour, what career path would you follow?

Kevin Koszala:   I was a police officer before in Chicago. If I didn’t have this opportunity to be a driver I would probably still be doing that.

MonsterJam.com: What’s your favorite food?

Kevin Koszala: I like all foods, I like to eat, but steak and potatoes are at the top.

MonsterJam.com: What’s your favorite movie?

Kevin Koszala:   Again, I like all different kinds of movies but comedies are my favorite.

MonsterJam.com: What’s your favorite television show?

Kevin Koszala:   I like watching Sons of Anarchy.

MonsterJam.com: What’s your favorite color?

Kevin Koszala:   Flat Black!
