The newest member of
Randy Brown Motorsports, Joey Parnell drives the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtle as the teammate to Grave Digger driven by Randy Brown at Advance Auto
Parts Monster Jam events. Parnell’s background in motorsports comes from both
tough trucks and mud racing. It was actually at a beach monster truck event
where he was running his tough truck as part of the show opening the door to
his opportunity to drive a monster truck. Parnell joined Randy Brown
Motorsports in 2010 where he works on the trucks and drives the Turtle. When
he’s not performing at Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam events Parnell operates a
four-wheel drive shop.
Q&A with Joey Parnell:
MonsterJam.com:
How did you get started competing on
the Monster Jam circuit?
Joey Parnell:
There was a big monster truck
event on the beach, in Virginia Beach, and I was running my tough truck at the
event. That’s where I met Randy Brown. It was perfect timing. He was looking
for a driver at the time and it all started there.
MonsterJam.com:
What do you enjoy doing while on the
road with Monster Jam?
Joey Parnell:
I really
enjoy all of the traveling, getting to see everything and getting to meet so
many people. Meeting all of the fans everywhere that we go is the best part.
MonsterJam.com:
What do you do with your free time?
Joey Parnell:
I have a four wheel drive shop back home so I
still do that. I like to work on other people’s trucks.
MonsterJam.com:
What is your greatest memory as a
monster truck driver?
Joey Parnell:
For me
it would be getting to run in the big shows. I love the chances that I’ve had
to run in the big stadiums like in Toronto and Miami. The big stadium shows are
the best.
MonsterJam.com:
Do you have any pre-show rituals that
you run though?
Joey Parnell:
Just to get in the truck a little
bit early so I’m not rushed. Being able to take my time and get all of my belts
on early. When I do it that way I’m always more relaxed. If you’re rushed and
you just jump in and go it’s like you’re in a panic, so I’d rather get in the
truck early without being in a rush. That’s it.
MonsterJam.com:
If you were not competing on the
Monster Jam tour, what career path would you follow?
Joey Parnell:
I’m sure I’d still be working on trucks. I
have my four wheel drive shop. And I’ve always liked racing so maybe I would
get into something like the off-road trucks. But it definitely needs to have a
big motor!
MonsterJam.com:
What’s your favorite food?
Joey Parnell:
Mexican.
MonsterJam.com:
What’s your favorite movie?
Joey Parnell:
Last if the Mohicans.
MonsterJam.com:
What’s your favorite television show?
Joey Parnell:
Anything on Speed and Nitro
Circus.
MonsterJam.com:
What’s your favorite color?
Joey Parnell:
Blue.
